Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) Drivers

 

Uist Asco, located about five miles from Lochmaddy on the Island of North Uist, is a seaweed processor that has been drying seaweeds since 2014.  This region of Scotland has a long and proud history of harvesting seaweed and creating jobs and economic growth from this renewable marine resource.

 

Profile:

 

The Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of equipment and ensuring seaweed is collected from the shoreline and delivered to the factory in a timely manner. All work will be performed in a manner that maintains the quality of the products being transported.

 

 

Relationships:

 

The HGV Driver reports to the Production Manager.  There are no positions reporting to the position. Internal contacts include Resource Manager, Director of Projects – Europe, Factory Operatives and employees within the Quality Assurance Department.

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Hauling of products from the harvesting sites to the factory in a safe, efficient manner.
  • Operate cranes and excavators to ensure products are loaded onto the lorry correctly.
  • Operating tractor and woodchipper when required.
  • Assist around the factory when required.
  • Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner within the proper operating parameters set by Uist Asco Limited and the DVSA.
  • Perform regular maintenance functions, within ability, on trucks. This includes changing oil, greasing, checking tyre pressures etc.
  • Report any items/equipment requiring maintenance-related work beyond capabilities to the Production Manager.
  • Assist maintenance personal in performing routine and large-scale maintenance as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Support the company’s vision and policies regarding Health & Safety, Corporate Culture, Environmental Management and the Progressive Excellence Program by displaying the appropriate behaviours toward meeting the company’s objectives in these areas.

 

Education/Competencies:

 

  • Standard Grade or equivalent education and a minimum of 5 years HGV experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • A valid class C1 + E License. (Potential to train to upgrade C1 License).
  • Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
  • Knowledge of Uist landing sites.
  • Mechanical ability.
  • Acceptable results of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check and driving license check.

 

Method of Evaluation:

The HGV Driver will ensure efficient safe timely hauling of products.
